What Is Dog Obedience?
Obedience

Whether you're looking for basic house manners and socialization for your new puppy, more advanced skills for an older dog, or competition obedience we have a class to suit you. Puppy class includes brief, informative lectures regarding puppy development issues. Freshman and Sophomore classes will help with better control in distracting environments and our more advanced classes will coach you through competition with beautiful teamwork heeling, retrieving and working at a distance with hand signals.


Course Descriptions

Puppy Obedience: Four-week session which includes Intro to Clicker, recall (come when called), sit, sit for dinner, down, puppy socialization and lecture. Class is ongoing so you can join any time and attend 4 consecutive weeks. Pre-requisite: Large breeds 8-12 weeks of age at start of classes; small breeds 8-16 weeks of age at start of classes, vaccinations appropriate for age of puppy.

Freshman Obedience: Six-week session which includes Intro to Clicker, sit, sit for dinner, down, recall (come when called), sit/down stay, loose leash walking. Pre-requisite: 8+ weeks of age, proof of rabies vaccination, vaccinations appropriate for age of dog/puppy.

Sophomore Obedience: Six-week session which includes sit and down on voice cue only, sit and down with hand signals, stay with distractions, stand, heeling. Pre-requisite: 14+ weeks of age, proof of rabies vaccination, Freshman Obedience.

Junior Obedience: Six-week session which includes longer distance stays with distractions, recalls with longer distance and distractions, off leash heeling, stand for exam, tricks, beginner agility training games. Pre-requisite: 5+ months of age, proof of rabies vaccination, Sophomore Obedience.

Beginner Attention: Six-week session geared toward competition but applicable in everyday life. This class teaches your dog to pay 100% attention to you on a verbal cue, instructs you in precision footwork and helps you and your dog look like a smooth working team. Pre-requisite: none

Advanced Attention: Six-week session starting where Beginner Attention leaves off. Helps you perfect your footwork with more precision. Works on off leash heeling and stays. Pre-requisite: Beginner Attention.

Senior Obedience: Six-week session works on all skills required for Novice CD competition. Pre-requisite: Advanced Attention.

Graduate Obedience: Six-week session works on all skills required for Open and Utility competition. Pre-requisite: Senior Obedience or Attention.

Versatility Obedience: Six-week session works on all skills required for Versatility Obedience Competition which include Novice/Open/Utility exercises. Pre-requisite: Graduate Obedience.
